The recently-formed Phoenix Piano Trio brings together three renowned musicians - all colleagues and friends of long standing but playing as a trio for the first time - and immediately promises to be an exceptionally exciting ensemble. Their concerts to date have drawn universal high praise; the Oxford Times described their playing in their debut concert as "a common approach to the music... a well-rounded concert from three consumate musicians." In 2011 they will be undertaking a major series covering all of Beethoven's piano trios and commissioning five new works to be performed along side them.

Violinist Jonathan Stone is also a member of the Doric String Quartet, hailed as the eminent quartet of its generation. Cellist Marie Macleod is a renowned soloist, a member of the Lendvai String Trio, the Aronowitz Ensemble (BBC New Generation Artists) and Ensemble 360. Pianist Sholto Kynoch works with many outstanding string players and singers, recently launched his debut CD at Wigmore Hall and is the founder and artistic director of the Oxford Lieder Festival.
